Each child is different and doesn’t start speaking at the same pace as other one is speaking.

As parents we always want to speed up child’s holistic development and speaking is the main major milestone.

Speaking is a biggest skill in human beings without the jwell of expression human beings face difficulties. So we should always keep an eye on childhood development, so that we should not face any delay in speech and language skills.

Here are some result oriented experienced techniques which i am jotting down. I request parents that they should use for 3 year old child. These techniques on a daily basis and they can achieve great results.

1. Reading stories- 

Reading age appropriate story books help in learning age appropriate vocabulary. Children learn how, when and where to use the words. They learn phrases, simple sentences and long sentence structures easily. Reading same story for at least one week or more depending upon the interest and learning speed of a child. Some children would love to listen same story for a long time, but some of them feel boredom. But it is recommended to stay on one story if you are working on language and speech development of 2 year old, 3 years old or 4 years old. Reading helps in fastening the goal of recall memory development,  so the children can learn retelling and narrating the same story. Reading stories make child auditory alert and improve auditory skills which leads in auditory memory, auditory recalling and using the same sentences meaningfully in spontaneous situations.

2. Pretend play

Pretend play is the best way to teach vocabulary, sentences and social communication skills to children. you can use any toy, objects to start pretend play. My one of the best is playing with daily use objects which are kitchen objects, bathroom objects, bedroom things two soft toys and you should be accompanying your child initially to teach him or her to orient the technique. Sometimes you need to spend days, weeks or months with your child. After some time you will start noticing the changes. You will be going to hear the same words or sentences from your child’s spontaneous piece of conversation.

you need to play with the things for e.g. You are brushing Teddy’s teeth, so for that you took a brush pretend putting paste on it and brushes teddy’s teeth, whether teddy has set of teeth or not because we are playing. While playing you have to use exact words and sentence that are required to use while you are going to brush your child’s teeth in reality. “Come on baby lets brush teeth, first pick up the toothpaste squeeze and put toothpaste on the brush, now brush teeth”. After brushing “Now spit and rinse your mouth, you need to pretend and show how to spit and rinse mouth.

Generalization of every learning is the key to make your child’s learning converts into spontaneous language so generalize the same activity when your child brushes teeth every morning and evening.

You can pretend play with so many toys and objects in the same way and increase your child’s vocabulary and language.

3. Parallel talk

Parallel talk is the way of speaking side by side when your child is playing on his own or you both are doing something. At that time you can start running commentary of what he is doing. Running commentary doesn’t mean you are just speaking without accent and tone. You have to add accent and tone obviously.

If child is playing with his cars and a car is not running while the other one is running. You say, ” wow blue car is running fast” ” Red car is not running”, “it is crashed” etc.

There are lot of other activities of parallel talk at the time of playing in the park, going to the mall, while watering the plants, while riding cycle, during your car rides

Theme play means playing with only one kind of toys and focussing on all the vocabulary related to that theme. Here we can choose animals. We can work on the following vocabulary

4. Theme playing

Farm animals- names of the animals, color and size of the animal, what do they do? If they plough the fields, lay eggs, gives milk. They can be pets.

Wild animals- live in jungle, their eating habits, you can àsk them to segregate farm and wild animals. Choose 5 of them which you like to watch in the zoo.

Play for a week or a month in the same way with animals. Try and visit Zoo, to give them a real view of all the animals. Click pictures of real animals if allowed and again when you play match picture with the toy animals.

You can explore what other themes are good to start after animal play. Play fosters language development and children takes interest in the activity. They can sit and concentrate for a longer period of time.
