Hi everyone, I am writing about using short videos in Speech and language therapy.
I am working with the children for more than two decades. It’s more than three decades when I came to know about speech therapy when my younger brother got diagnosed with speech issues.
At the time he get diagnosed, I was in school. I used to play with him by targeting one word every day, one song every day and one alphabet every day. I always want to use new methods of promoting speech development.
This was always my dream of short videos of each word. The technology was quite difficult in those days, which I am fulfilling now for my students. I have developed short videos for Speech therapy at home.
Now, after a long period of practicing with children, I took out time to make some videos. These are definitely going to help many children.
This is because children with needs don’t like to watch longer videos. They have short attention span and short sitting span.
These YouTube shorts for teaching ‘verbs’, ‘I want’, social skills are definitely going to help them. Only you need to show them on a regular basis to achieve the great results.
Children love watching videos and this doesn’t mean that they should not be reading and playing with toys.
The short videos give them a speech, when they hear it more often with the visuals and auditory content.
Real story of using short video in my session
One of my students joined the class after fever. He wasn’t sitting in front of his laptop in the online class. I shared video of ‘I want tea’ and tea is his favourite drink during winters.
Oh my God, he listened to it for 5 times around. His dad and I were promoting him “wow hot tea do you want it” and suddenly he started saying “tea, tea” “I want tea'” .
He never spoken more than one word before that day. We were surprised and delighted to see how he started using meaningful phrase. Now he can say all of them with the help of videos and using them sometimes spontaneously.
I am continuously picking up the goals of my current students. And making videos for them to speed up the progress. https://speechtherapys.com/2022/01/17/how-to-teach-i-want-in-sentences/
These videos are helpful for many of the children.
You can give me goal for your child and i will develop videos according to your specific need. Do write in the comments.
